Hi folks. I finally found the button to press that switches the internet back on. What’s been going on?
I’ve been a busy bee (bit out of character but there we are). My second album ‘True and False’ which has been produced by Boo Hewerdine is finished, mastered and parked in a lay-by. It’ll be out half way through next year so sorry about the wait. It’s a really lovely album. True and False is the title that best describes the confusing but rewarding task of writing about how you feel about who you are.
In the interim I’ve got to work putting together yet another record with a whole host of collaborators. There are 14 songs on the table and we’re about half way through. Some amazing contributions from some exceptionally good musicians. Lined-up for contributions are Aaron Sperske (Lilys, Beachwood Sparks, Father John Misty), James Eller (The The, Julian Cope, tons of other stuff), Jennifer Crook, Pete Greenwood, Ben Folke Thomas, my favourite drummer David Krupski, amazing saxophone, trumpet… it goes on and on. The bottom line here, however, is that I’m sorting you out another lovely, precious little album of new songs. I’m looking forward to getting them to you.
It was also my grandma’s 90th birthday this month. She’s the best. We had a party for her at my brother’s house. That’s him in the picture. we did her a little gig. My niece played piano. My brother played harmonica. Obviously I gave him the harmonica that was in the worst possible musical key to the one we were playing in. It was hilariously awful and great at the same time.
This winter’s tour with Jinder is going great. Most of the gigs are in the first months of 2016 but last couple weeks we’ve had some great nights in Cardiff, Norwich and Brighton and made some new friends. For next week’s gig at The Stables in Milton Keynes (tickets here) there is gonna be a piano and I’m really looking forward to that. I’ve been writing a lot on piano recently. I think you’re gonna like them.
If you know anyone who you feel might enjoy the songs I write please do spread the word. There’s an album and an e.p. for them to get started on. And a list of live dates too.
I hope you’ve had a good year so far and I hope Christmas brings you happy days and nights to share.
Be good. See ya soon.
